Authenticity in Social Media

Karina Kistler Content Manager

Obviously, social media is very important to your brand, but how authentic your brand’s presence is online will often dictate how your customers will perceive and engage with you. You can always ask your audience what they would like more of and that can give you a reflection of what people find authentic about your brand. Your authenticity also reflects the quality of your brand and what people will associate your brand with.

Don’t be afraid to be more approachable with your posts. People want to follow the process and see it happen in real-time. This will allow you to connect with your customers and let them know how things work for you. Only share things that reflect your brand and are relevant to your company's culture.

Not every viral sensation will work for your brand, you can try to make “it” work but if you try to force “it”, your audience will definitely notice.

Authenticity = Quality

In today’s world authenticity is a key factor in how people perceive your business. You can always ask your audience what they would like more of and that can give you a reflection of what people find authentic about your brand. Your authenticity also reflects the quality of your brand and what people will associate it with. Certain things should be avoided to maintain authenticity, like using too many “big words” or not including enough personal content on social media platforms.

How we present ourselves to the world is an extension of who we are. People want transparency, especially when there’s nothing shady going on behind closed doors or with content that doesn't hold up under scrutiny - so show your audience what they're getting themselves into!

Create Community

Don’t be afraid: it can help you connect better and make customers feel more at ease because sometimes life gets hectic; showcase some mess-ups along the way-they might even turn out well after all. And don't forget about behind-the-scenes shots; showing people how things work for YOU will allow them a closer look into your brand. The online community you create from these interactions are your future customers.

Your brand’s authenticity is what will create the foundation for your company to build on. It doesn't happen overnight, but with patience, dedication, and quality content, you can make sure it becomes a reality. You can always ask your audience what they would like more of and that can give you a reflection of what people find authentic about your brand. It’s important to be aware, as well, how other influencers in your community may perceive you based on their own personal interests or beliefs. The best way to do this is by listening to what others say about you online through social media channels.

Simple Ways to Create Authenticity

  • Show How You Create Your Product

  • Highlight Team Members

  • Always Respond to Questions and DM’s

  • Don’t Schedule and Forget, Post Authentic Content Consistently

Going “Viral” is Not Authentic

Stop trying so hard to go viral and just focus on your brand - This might seem like an easy feat, but when a brand tries too hard, it turns off consumers who would otherwise enjoy their content or become a customer.

One way to avoid this is by thinking of your social media presence, not as a series of posts you need to get the most likes or shares possible, but rather as an opportunity for your brand. What can make online content successful? The answer isn't trying hard - it's authentic and original content that resonates with people in their own way. Why try so hard when all you need is authenticity?
